New Technologies for Repairing Concrete
Combining traditional types of morters with modern polymers has created a new class of cement materials designed to improve and repair existing concrete slabs. Each design has it's own set of features it was designed to offer. Read further to see the remarkable properties exhibited by this new class of cements but be aware that each product is different and it should be used only as specified. The most common feature of all these special cements are the ability to be applied in relatively thin layers which are flexible and durable whereas standard concrete will fracture when applied in thin sections.
Self-Leveling
An important feature of some cements is the ability to provide a level surface without the installer forming and shaping the cement. This is achieved by designing the cement to have a very low viscosity when it is mixed with water. This allows the cement to "flow" and fill spaces guided by gravity. This is a useful feature used to repair concrete surfaces which are not uniformly level or surfaces that are scarred, spalled or poorly patched.
Cost Effective
Thin equates to cost. The more material required to repair a surface the more it typically costs. The ability to be applied in thin sections makes overlays a very economical solution compared to removing and repouring the entire concrete slab. This new class of repair cements are also fast curing. Typically, they are back in service or being coated with new flooring within hours of their initial application.
New Surface
Overlays create a new surface for your concrete slab. It fills and hides all the years of abuse and provides a new surface which offers a wide variety of flooring solutions depending on the overlay you choose. These flooring types include: epoxy, tile, and other floor systems, but also this new surface can support direct stain or dye, polishing, and can be pre-colored to suit your preferences.
